One of our favorite radio programs, The Splendid Table, recently aired an interview with beer historian Alan Eames, author of The Secret Life of Beer. He claims the Halloween witch was a beauty, a healer, and a great beer maker. Her broom? put in the street to indicate our witch has beer to sell! The bubbling black kettle? full of beer! The black cat? a tool to keep Mickey out of her hops and grains!
