Bier à Montréal

I met a fellow during the Mars Volta show at Higher Ground who teaches at McGill University in Montreal. He insisted that I sample the micros from St. Ambroise (McAuslan Brewery) if I ever made it to Canada, and this is what I came home with.

This pack included their St. Ambroise Pale Ale, St. Ambroise Apricot Wheat Ale, Griffon Red Ale, and Griffon Extra Blonde.

The St. Ambroise Pale Ale was just about as perfect as a pale ale could be. This crisp, medium bodied beer has a floral and tea nose and a malty finish. Very Good.

The St. Ambroise Apricot Wheat Ale smelled and tasted strongly of apricot, and I mean strongly. highly carbonated. light body. not too shabby.

The two Griffon beers were pretty good as well, but they are not worth going into much detail about. The Red Ale tasted like a fairly light red beer, and the Blonde tasted like a fairly light pale or blonde ale.

It is of importance to note that these beers were enjoyed at a warmer temperature that usual. The absence of a refrigerator during the evening of consumption let to a quick icing in a hotel ice-machine bucket. : )
