<< Headdy >> Vermont Beers

Welcome to the great state of Vermont! K. and I arrived just in time to catch Grace Potter and the Nocturnals on New Years Eve and sample a few beers around town while we were at it.

The first item up for bid is a staple around Burlington. Everyone has it on tap, and every little grocery store and gas station sells it by the 6er. Honestly, it really didn't do anything for me. Long Trail Ale consists of a funny malt overtone(think German style) that I didn't care for and a smooth refreshing finish.

The Magic Hat Brewery is located is South Burlington and has an amazing self guided tour. K and I watched in wonder as machines magically made flat cardboard turn into case boxes, and then systematically filled with different kinds of beer floating down towards them.

This one kid, who was making sure all the bottle were straight before being filled, must have had a few enemies at the factory. Fellow employees kept pushing his bottles over, and we almost witnessed a beer war of gigantic proportions.

Anyway, Roxy Rolles is a seasonal Magic Hat beer that sort of mixes a good Amber Ale(see Bell's) and a medium bodied IPA(see Harpoon) . I really like the mix! A lot goes on when you mix these two together. Rock n' Roll.

Switchback is another local brewery in Vermont that is fairly new. They started distributing a few years back, but for some reason they didn't bottle any this year. This brew is at EVERY SINGLE SPOT imaginable in VT. It has a fairly light body, super clean crisp and refreshing finish, all while keeping a well balanced taste and a fairly high alcohol(or so I'm told).

Information about this brewery does not exist online. They brew one beer. They have no marketing. But somehow have created the perfect apres ski, session beer. Kudos, Switchback!
