Adventure Time: Snowshoe > Helvetia > Pittsburgh > Morgantown

It has come to the point in the year for holiday traveling, and the folks here at East Georgian would like to share a few highlights from our recent adventures.

There has been lots and LOTS of snow falling in West Virginia this year.  If you haven't been driving on I-79 when it looks like this, well.. you haven't really lived.

Snowshoe has gotten a lot of snow as well.  If fact they have had several days this year that the nightly snowfall has been so great that no groomers were allowed on the slopes.  Powder day!!

That evening we stayed at The Brazen Head Inn which is a few short miles from the top of Snowshoe Mountain.  This Inn was built by the proprietor, Will, and his sons, and they have a great little restaurant and Irish pub.  I would highly recommend it for dinner (try the Irish Breakfast) and a pint of Guinness.

Our next stop was in the town of Helvetia, West Virginia.  The local restaurant has great homemade food, and they always have a local brew on tap from one of the breweries in the Thomas/Davis area of WV.  The Wikipedia page on Helvetia is pretty interesting.  LOTS of history and culture there.

Our next stop on this adventure was in the South Side district of Pittsburgh at the Hofbrauhaus.  This usually jam-packed German beer hall was pretty empty at 11am : ) They served up some extremely fresh tasting beers brewed on the premises.  Their December seasonal, the Christmasber, was quite excellent.

from http://www.hofbrauhauspittsburgh.com/beer:

"December: “Christmasbeer” (5.5 % Alc. by Volume) - A flavorful amber lager with a rich amount of hops in finish. A little fuller with more malty character than our Hofbräu Lager."

Finally! A trip to check out the OTB Brewery!!!  Mad Man, Tony B, gave a quick tour, a taste of the Peloton Pale Ale, and the Imperial Porter.  Quite Fantastic!!  Tony B was almost ready to start bottling the Imperial Porter.  Read more about it is his previous posts.

Our next stop was at the Morgantown Brewing Company, named for the city in which it resides, named for my ancestor Morgan Morgan.  We enjoyed a version of their Alpha Blond Ale that had been brewed with a heavy dose of spices and served with a glass rimmed with sugar and cinnamon.  Perfection in a glass.

That's all for now folks.  More adventures are sure to follow.
